Kindess Matters!

We watched these videos in class to help us prepare for a secret pal project which will be the focus of our homework next week. Each student will receive a secret buddy and will try to do random acts of kindness for them (without the person figuring out who's doing them). While we work to be kind all year, this month seems to remind everyone to focus on spreading a little extra kindness.

What is the Distributive Property of Multiplication?(Homework Help)

The distributive property tells us we can take one factor and break it down into smaller parts to make the multiplication easier.  In other words we can "spread out one of the factors". For example in the problem

7 x 8 the eight could be thought of as 5 + 3. After multiplying the 7 to the 5 and then the 3, the products are added together.  (7x5) + (7x3). Some students might actually be using this property to solve harder math problems mentally.

The following two video clips may help this distributive property idea make more sense.
